The Playlist

For this assignment, we were required to do a listening booth, based on the study of compact space. By understanding the mechanism, such as

-Stress
-Contractible & expandable
-Folding
  -Hinging (flexible joints)
- Assembling
  -Rolling
 -Nesting
  -Expanded & retracted
-Sliding
 -Inflation

our task is to design a space of 1500(L) x 1500 (W) x 2400(H)
We were given 4 weeks to do this assignments.

Here's a video to show how the mechanism works:

Reflection:
When I first receive this assignment, I wasn't sure what I was suppose to do and it was very confusing. After the mock up session, I finally understood what I was suppose to do for this projects. It was a bit challenging assignment, because we need to apply the mechanism into the model as well. But still I'd tried my hardest to finish building the model. I was actually enjoyed doing the furnitures rather than the walls and such. I hope I will be able to polish up my skill more doing model making in the future.

Rhythm Wall

"HEAL MY PAIN"

Our next assignment is making a rhythm wall based on the our music genre, which mine is
Hard Rock
Basically we will need to design a rhythm wall that give off an impression about the type of music we are working with. For this particular assignment, we can use any type of material we want, as long it is white, because our final model suppose to be a colourless. We will also need to used the basic design elements into our rhythm wall, which are;
-point
-line
-shape
-value
-size
-space
-texture
-colour

Final presentation set-up

Front

Back

For my wall, since my genre is Hard Rock, I want to do something that is related to bones. This is because bone represents permanence beyond death and it is also the last thing left of us. At the same time, bone also represent our truest, barest self in each and everyone of us.

Secondly, I was inspired by butterfly and it's symbolic meaning. Butterfly itself have a lot of meaning. According to Greek myth, Psyche(which literally translates to mean "soul") is represented in the form of a butterfly. By using the Greek myth, I decided to portrait my butterfly as the soul of a person.

In the end, I decided to combine the idea of the bones and butterfly together. The structure of the design is based on our rib cage, however, the shape is like the butterfly's hind wings.

As for the barb wire in the background, it represent a barrier wall, to protect ourselves, so that we won't easily get hurt and stay strong. That's how I feel what hard rock all about. It may be hardcore to some people, but I personally think it just an act of defense and to release from tension.

The elements I use for my wall is point, line and shape.

Reflection:

I think this assignment is interesting and I had fun making it. I had always been inspire by butterfly, even in my previous assignment, during foundation, and I was glad to be able to use it even when the genre is hard rock. It was a bit challenging when the model wall need to be all white, because colour helps in designing to portrait the feeling of the art. However, when it is colourless, I feel like the model art are more direct than usual.

Inforgraphic Board

Our very first assignment when we started our semester 2 is a infographic board. For this assignment, it is based of music genre. We did a lucky draw in class to divided everyone into groups. The reason why we did a lucky draw for the genre music is mainly because we aren't able to choose what kind of jobs we were given to when we will start working in the future. I've gotten myself HARD ROCK music genre. We were told that this genre will be use to all of our assignment for this semester.

Since this assignment is a group work, my group member are Chia Kha Wen(Cherry), Chiang Shu Ling(Mishu), Dickson and Claudia(she was transfer to another uni on presentation day but she did help us for this assignment). We were given a week to complete this assignment.

This is our board in the final presentation.

When doing the board, we divided ourselves into different task. I did the drawing of the person in that board. Other than that, we helped each other on the rest of the board. As for the information, I did the fashion and mood.

Since our music genre is hard rock, we come with an idea of a person screaming till his flesh torn to represent what kind of song hard rock is about. Since this type of genre have loud screechy vocals. The guitar represent those intense intrusmentals that is often emphasize in this genre, We keep the colour minimal in the shade of black, white and red.

Reflection:
This first assignment took me by suprise. I didn't expect that we will use music as our inspiration for all of our projects throughout the whole semester. I was glad they did a lucky draw for the genre of the music because that's how reality works. We can't choose what kind of projects we want in the working industry. Since, I got Hard Rock as my genre, they said it will be tough for some people because it isn't the type of music a lot of people listen. Usually people will able to listen to punk music but rock is totally in a different stage. However, I always listen to hard rock music since little, so I will able to manage it somehow. Since my other member does not listen to this genre, it was hard for us to come up with an idea but we still able to pull it off in the end. On the presentation day, the lecturers told us that will need to put more visual and less words in our board.

IDP Final Presentation

On 6 July 2015, we did our presentation of our final assignments, The Survival Projects from the Introduction to Interior Designs Projects module.

All of us were divided into different group of lecturers and did our presentation one on one with the lecturer.

This is my storyboard. The first part of our final project after we came back from our trip to the Redang Island.

This is the weapons I created for this assignments,

Dual-Knife

Here's a video of the storybaord and briefly about the weapons as well.

The second part of this assignment is making a survival pod.
Here is the presentation board about everything you need to know about my survival pod.

We also required to make a model version of our survival pod.
This is my final model of my survival pod.

After 1 month doing this assignment, I'm glad to finished it without any issues.
Today, I managed to did my presentation without any problems and I hope I doesn't look as nervous as I were in the inside.

I want to say thank you to all my lecturers who had guide us for this whole semester.

Submission Day

Today, 1st July 2015, is our submission day for the portfolio and visual diary.

Marker Rendering

Last but not least, our final assignment for this class is Marker Rendering.
We were require to photocopy our plan, elevation and section drawing last time
and compose it to a presentation board with a suitable title and a few description about the house.
Since we did watercolour rendering before, this time we need to do a marker rendering.

Reflection:
It's true that marker rendering makes our work look more professional, however, I personally like using watercolour rendering more to produce my work. In my opinion, watercolour rendering looks more soft colouring instead to marker rendering. But it was fun exploring different kinds of techniques in rendering.

Model Making

In a group of 4, we were given a task to make a model making assignment.
By using softboard and a few transparency paper for the windows.
This model was the same house model we did for our plan, elevation, and section drawing.

The final model

My presentation board

Reflection:
This is our first time doing a model making assignment and it was very hard. the scale of this model is 1:100. It's quite small and doing the staircase was very hard. Sometimes it make me want to have smaller hands. It's super stressful for the first time of making it and I hope in the future I'll will manage to do it just fine. Cuting the pieces together also reminds me of foundation last time when Idid a cut-out assignments. However, compare to last time, which was only using paper, this time using a softboard, it will add a few more energy to cut it.
